TravelRest inflatable travel pillow

The "TravelRest" is billed as the "ultimate travel pillow" — clearly hyperbole, as the ultimate travel pillow is the soft shoulder of your preferred companion. (Unless that companion is a robot, in which case I would suggest the Nzzle Touch Pro neodymium-clasped sooth pouch upgrade.)

Neck Support Pillow - Why Use It?

By Sherry L Harris

A neck support pillow provides pressure relief and support to the most vital area - your neck. The ergonomic design enables all body types and sizes to take advantage of the natural comfort that comes from its use.

The design allows your neck and shoulder muscles to relax completely. Its ergonomic shape and distinctive pressure relieving aim enables people with neck and back discomfort to get a good night's sleep. It is important to note that sleep pillows have been clinically shown to improve the quality of your sleep.

Let's talk about home use, travel use and direct benefits of the support pillow.

Home use

There are many home pillow designs to suit your body and personal preferences. Goals vary from person to person on what they seek to get out of their neck support. However, the top three reasons people state are:

1. lumbar support

2. leg support

3. head support

No matter what your goal is the support pillow gives pressure relieving and that is what you are looking for.

Travel use

Let's face it, traveling can make you tired. When we get tired of sitting in a bus or airplane seat we start to contort our bodies from one position to another. Then after we arrive at our destination and sleep in an unfamiliar bed we continue the vicious cycle of tossing and turning. We might even wake up with a crook in our neck.

To combat this potential problem it might be advantageous to get yourself a good horseshoe or u-shaped travel support pillow. This particular design cradles your neck, so that it relieves pressure and promotes comfort and support while traveling.

Benefits

No matter how many times you switch positions during the night, the neck support pillow enables you to wake up rested, relaxed and ready to take on the day. Ok, you might not feel like Superman, but nonetheless you will feel rested.

A sagging or distorted pillow promotes an unnatural spine alignment. Your muscles, in the lower neck and back area, tense up trying to restore a more natural positioning of the spine. It is this muscle tension that builds up throughout the night, producing the morning discomfort and pain. When you use a support pillow you naturally redistribute body weight, greatly improving your circulation.

When you use sleep pillows you wake up refreshed and you no longer have to worry about chronic pain and stiffness. Instead the sleep pillow gives your neck, back and shoulders comfort and support.

So no matter what brand of support pillow you choose, just give it a try. A higher quality of sleep helps you look and feel better. Your energy will be restored. You will even look better because sleep rejuvenates the skin and lessens wrinkles.

Contour Travel Pillow - Are Airline Pillows Sanitary?

By Charles Harmon

Have you ever wondered about the airline pillow you're snuggling up to while in flight?

Who slept on it last? How many people have slept on it since the pillow case was changed?...or the pillow sanitized?

Did they have a cold, the flu...or something worse?

Many articles and blog entries have been written about the unsanitary pillow someone experienced while traveling and contracting things from head lice to the flu and worse. A contour travel pillow could be in your future, especially since some of the airlines no longer furnish in-flight pillows.

It's not my purpose to bash the airlines or to scare you, but I have heard it directly from a few airline stewards and stewardesses that they don't change the pillows or pillow cases unless it's requested by a passenger.

I don't know how that makes you feel, but it grosses me out. Not to mention that it obviously increases your chance of arriving on your vacation or business trip with a new case of the flu...or who knows what.

Since hearing that, I carry a contour travel pillow with me and it's been great.

Carrying your own contour travel pillow has many advantages over using a community pillow that's been around the world a few times without any attention from a cleaning crew. The advantages:

  • you won't have to wait for one to be brought to you
  • some airlines no longer carry pillows on board
  • you have it with you before and after the flight for use in cabs, buses, hotels, etc.
  • you control the frequency of changing pillow cases or cleaning the pillow
  • you know who slept on it last...you!
There are several types of travel pillows available from blow up pillows to buckwheat pillows to memory foam pillows.

My favorite pillow for travel is a contour travel pillow made from memory foam.

It has many advantages over the airline pillow besides the issues with cleanliness:

  • There is a soft, velour and micro-suede cover to keep your pillow clean
  • It's attached with velcro so you can roll the pillow into a very small size for easy tucking into a carry on or fastening around your luggage tote handle.
  • The removable cover can easily be washed, dried and fresh for the next day
  • The cover is anti-microbial and anti fungal
  • The contour shape of the pillow keeps your neck properly supported to eliminate neck aches
  • I can roll it up for a change of feel
  • It makes a great lumbar support while in flight
  • It's great for backpacking, camping, cruise ship, or any other time you need a pillow
  • The memory foam always comes back to it's shape no matter how it's crushed, folded or rolled
A better contour pillow will range in the $79.00 to $99.00 range but I feel it's one of the best investments I have made in my travel enjoyment.

Travel a Lot For Business? Don't Forget a Travel Pillow!

By Sherry L Harris

Business travelers that are on the road a lot should always carry their own travel pillow. A good travel pillow can serve many purposes. It can be a pillow, a neck pillow, a back pillow, something to keep the light out of your eyes, and much more.

It's also a good idea to have your own travel pillow for sanitary reasons. Airlines disinfect their pillows, but there is still a good chance that dust mites or other things could be living inside. I don't know about you, but that is gross to me. Yuck!

When you have your own cushion that is soft and clean and has not been used by a thousand other people that week, you will be much more relaxed. And, as an added bonus, you will sleep more soundly on your pillow.

When you are buying a travel pillow for yourself or a loved one look for a pillow that has a flexible stuffing, so that it can be reshaped and used as a neck pillow or padding, if need be. It should also have a removable cover that can be taken off and washed. A small pillow should be able to be wadded up and shoved into a pocket or purse because you might not always be able to get to your carry on bag easily to get your pillow.

If you are crafty you can make your travel pillow or make a pillow for someone you love. Choose a soft but easily washable fabric for the cover and put a zipper or a snap on it so you can take the cover off for cleaning. If you want to make the pillow more relaxing, put some fresh herbs like Lavender flowers or some Chamomile or Peppermint in a sachet and tuck that inside the pillow.

When the herbs get stale you can just take that sachet out and put in a new one. Be careful that the herbs you use are not too strong though or the rest of the other people on the plane might object to you using the pillow.

Along with your travel pillow you should also carry a travel blanket. A light travel blanket will make it easier to sleep on the plane and it will give you a little extra warmth on the airplane and in the hotel if you need it. A cashmere shawl or large scarf can do double duty as a light but warm travel blanket that you can easily carry with you.

So, next time you boss sends you off another trip across country, don't forget your handy dandy travel pillow. Here's to your rest, so you can have a great meeting.

Contour Travel Pillow

By Manuel Wiggins

Contour travel pillows are available for both adults and children. For adults they are available in two shapes.

The horseshoe shape that goes around the neck and supports the head while sleeping in flights. They are easily available and the most used type. They are made of polyester blend and are fiber filled. They cushion the neck and the head. They are covered with fleece or cotton and are resistant and durable. Most companies offer them as machine washable. Inflatable and non inflatable contour travel pillows are also available. They are easy to carry and can fit into the smallest of places.

The cost for the pillows range from $12-$15. There are many that are shaped flatter unlike the horseshoe shape. They support both the sides of the head. These can be used in planes, trains, buses and also in the back of the car.

For children, the contour travel pillows are smaller in shape and are designed to resemble various animals such as leopards, dogs, cats, lions, zebras and many other animals. They are made in the same way and care is taken so that they don't cause any allergy or rashes in children.

The wedge shaped pillow is also a contour travel pillow. It serves the same purpose and lets you travel in ease without a neck crick. It helps you to relax and you wake with more vigor and vitality.

The inflatable travel lumbar pillow provides comfort not only for your necks and head but also for lower backs and legs. It packs neatly and takes very little space. These pillows can be deflated with just a press of a button. Since it's so compact it can be easily packed away in the briefcase. It has a removable cover in polyester that can be easily machine washed.
